Pakistan is set to host Indus AI Week 2026, a major national initiative launched by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT). The event is part of the Prime Ministerโs Digital Pakistan vision. It aims to highlight Pakistanโs growing strength in Artificial Intelligence. The week-long programme will run from February 9 to February 15, 2026. It will conclude with a flagship summit at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad.
The event will bring together policymakers, global tech leaders, investors, academia, startups, and young professionals. The goal is to build a strong AI ecosystem in Pakistan. The government wants to show the world that Pakistan is ready for the digital future.
AI to Drive Pakistanโs Digital Growth
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called Indus AI Week a turning point for Pakistanโs economy. He said AI is no longer a future concept. Instead, it is a key tool for governance and industrial growth. He stressed that Pakistan must move from being a technology consumer to becoming a technology innovator.
The prime minister highlighted the need to use AI in sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and finance. He said AI can improve transparency, efficiency, and productivity. He also emphasized the need to train youth for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Government Pushes for Real AI Adoption
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, said the government has moved from policy to action. She added that Indus AI Week will promote practical AI use across industries. She invited international investors to explore Pakistanโs digital potential.
The minister highlighted that Pakistan produces over 25,000 IT graduates annually. She said the country has the talent to compete globally. She also stressed that the event will position Pakistan as a hub for ethical and scalable AI solutions.
Flagship Programs to Boost AI Ecosystem
Indus AI Week will feature several key programmes. One major initiative is AI for HER, which aims to include more women in the AI economy. Another focus area is E-Sports and Gaming, promoting gaming as a digital export. The week will also showcase AR/VR and Robotics for training and industrial use.
The event will include a GovTech and DefenceTech Showcase. It will highlight AI-enabled governance and security solutions. The programme will also feature an Industry Expo, where companies can hire talent on the spot. Additionally, a National AI Training Bootcamp and Uraan AI Techathon 1.0 will help students and startups build real AI projects.
Former P@SHA Chairman Muhammad Zohaib Khan praised the initiative. He said it shows strong cooperation between the government and the private sector. He added that Pakistanโs IT industry has already achieved record exports. Now, it is ready to scale AI research and development.
