The Showtime thriller Homeland has found a new audience and massive success after all eight seasons were added to Netflix. Originally airing from 2011 to 2020, the series stars Claire Danes as a CIA officer tasked with uncovering whether terrorists have recruited a U.S. Marine, played by Damian Lewis.
Released on Netflix in November 2025 (and also available on Hulu), the show quickly became a hit. According to Nielsen data compiled by THR, during the week of December 22-28, Homeland ranked No. 6 on the Top 10 Overall chart, with 921 million minutes viewed.
The only titles above it were Stranger Things, Landman, Home Alone, The Closer, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000). Among acquired seriesโshows not originally released on the platformโHomeland reached No. 2, just behind The Closer. Other Top 10 acquired shows included Bluey, NCIS, Bobโs Burgers, SpongeBob SquarePants, The Big Bang Theory, Greyโs Anatomy, Law & Order, and Paw Patrol.
The series also featured Morena Baccarin, David Harewood, Diego Klattenhoff, and Mandy Patinkin, with a young Timothรฉe Chalamet appearing in a recurring role early on.
Critically, Homeland was a powerhouse. Across its eight-season run, it holds an 85% Rotten Tomatoes score, won Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmys, and garnered multiple acting awards for Danes and Lewis, including Outstanding Lead Actress and Actor in a Drama Series and Golden Globe wins. Danes also earned recognition from the Screen Actors Guild for her performance.
Since the show ended in 2020, the cast has moved on to other projects. Danes starred in Fleishman Is in Trouble, Full Circle, and The Beast in Me, while Lewis appeared in Fackham Hall, Billions, and A Spy Among Friends, also lending his voice to Ken Burnsโ The American Revolution docuseries.
Despite the cast moving on, Homeland continues to captivate new audiencesโthis time on the worldโs largest streaming platform, proving the showโs enduring appeal.
