DC Studios co-chief James Gunn has dropped a brand-new teaser for Supergirl, finally giving fans their first proper look at Jason Momoa as the infamous DC villain Lobo — and judging by the actor’s reaction, the excitement is mutual.
The teaser, shared Friday on Gunn’s Instagram, opens with Momoa stepping out of his trailer while casually smoking a cigar. When asked if he has anything to say about playing Lobo, the actor simply grins, flashing a set of sharp fangs that instantly confirm he’s fully embraced the character. The clip then cuts to footage from Supergirl, showing Momoa’s Lobo laughing maniacally while riding a motorcycle through space chaos. Momoa later reposted the clip on his own social media.
“It’s called making an entrance,” Gunn wrote while sharing an extended version of the teaser on X.
The 30-second teaser expands on footage first shown in the initial Supergirl preview. “House of the Dragon” star Milly Alcock appears as Kara Zor-El, battling various space thugs before Momoa’s Lobo crashes into the action with signature swagger. Like the previous teaser, the clip is set to Blondie’s “Call Me,” reinforcing the film’s bold, punk-infused tone.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, Supergirl follows the Kryptonian hero as she celebrates her 23rd birthday before crossing paths with Ruthye Marye Knoll, played by Eve Ridley. What begins as an unexpected meeting soon evolves into a dangerous quest, as Supergirl faces a ruthless and unforeseen adversary, according to the film’s official logline.
The movie also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. The screenplay was written by Ana Nogueira and is based on the critically acclaimed DC Comics miniseries Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.
Momoa’s casting as Lobo marks a high-profile return to the DC universe. The actor previously portrayed Arthur Curry — better known as Aquaman — in Aquaman (2018) and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023), becoming one of the most recognizable faces of the former DC Extended Universe.
Unlike Aquaman’s regal demeanor, Lobo is a chaotic, cigar-chomping intergalactic bounty hunter known for his brutal strength and irreverent humor — a role Momoa has openly described as a lifelong dream.
“I always wanted to play Lobo,” Momoa told Fandango in 2023. “If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a definite yes. If they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”
That wish became reality when his casting was officially announced in 2024, generating massive buzz among DC fans who had long considered Momoa a perfect fit for the character.
With Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC era now taking shape, Supergirl is shaping up to be a key chapter — and Momoa’s scene-stealing debut as Lobo may be one of its biggest highlights.
Supergirl is scheduled to hit theaters on June 26.
