The Chicago Bulls are giving Derrick Rose a celebration to remember when his No. 1 jersey is retired at the United Center this Saturday — and the tribute goes beyond the rafters. Fans attending the game against the Boston Celtics can enjoy special themed concessions inspired by the former Chicago star.
Levy Restaurants, the Bulls’ food partner, has created a menu that spans drinks, desserts, and entrees. The Rose Cocktail is a clarified margarita with reposado tequila, Rose’s favorite, featuring a rose-infused ice cube with a red rose inside. Sweet options include a rose-shaped cake pop with red sprinkles and a custom sugar cookie decorated with Rose’s No. 1 jersey icing, echoing the white Bulls uniform he wore.
Savory offerings include the MVP burger, with double-smashed beef patties topped with Chicago-style Italian beef on a bun stamped “MVP,” honoring Rose’s 2011 MVP season. Fans can also enjoy No. 1 nachos, featuring red and black tortilla chips hand-cut to form the shape of Rose’s jersey number.
Rose, a Chicago native, was the first overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft and played seven seasons with the Bulls. He earned Rookie of the Year honors in 2008-09 and became the youngest MVP in NBA history at 22 during the 2010-11 season.
The Bulls have previously retired only four numbers: Jerry Sloan’s No. 4, Bob Love’s No. 10, Michael Jordan’s No. 23, and Scottie Pippen’s No. 33. Since Rose was traded to the New York Knicks in 2016, no player has worn No. 1 — a number now forever enshrined in Chicago basketball history.
