ISLAMABAD: FIFA President Gianni Infantino today revealed his plan to visit Pakistan to boost football in the country. Infantino stated this while speaking to Pakistan TV Digital during the 56th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Infantino confirmed that he had personally promised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that he would travel to Pakistan soon.
The announcement has generated optimism among sports officials and football fans, who see the visit as a positive step toward strengthening the countryโs presence in regional and international football.
FIFA backs reforms and leadership within the Pakistan Football Federation
Infantino praised the newly appointed president of the Pakistan Football Federation, saying the official is doing tremendous work to stabilise the organisation and push reforms forward. He described Pakistan as a great football country with strong potential and stressed that FIFA wants to see Pakistan emerge as a top contender at the Asian level.
Therefore, FIFA continues to work closely with local authorities to improve governance structures and create long-term development pathways. The inclusion of Pakistani politician Syeda Amna Batool in FIFAโs reform committee last month also reflected the organisationโs broader commitment to supporting institutional progress in Pakistanโs football ecosystem.
International engagement signals growing momentum for football growth
FIFAโs engagement with Pakistan has increased in recent months. In November 2025, FIFA Senior Vice President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa visited Pakistan for three days, during which he met officials to discuss the development of football infrastructure and future collaboration.
These high-level interactions have encouraged stakeholders to prioritise investment in facilities, youth academies, and professional structures. Moreover, they have strengthened confidence that Pakistan can build a competitive football framework with sustained international support.
Football continues to gain popularity across the country, particularly among young people. Participation in school tournaments, local leagues, and community club events has risen steadily. As a result, grassroots football has expanded in both urban and rural areas.
Observers believe that Infantinoโs upcoming visit could further accelerate this momentum and open new opportunities for players, coaches, and administrators. Stakeholders now expect clearer roadmaps, stronger partnerships, and renewed enthusiasm for the sportโs future in Pakistan.
