High-Level Visit Aims to Strengthen Pakistan-US Relations
A Pakistani parliamentary delegation has arrived in Washington for a series of high-level meetings with US lawmakers and officials. The delegation landed on Tuesday evening and is led by Senator Babar Siraj Khan Nasir. The visit is part of a renewed effort to strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United States.
The delegation includes members from both the Senate and the National Assembly of Pakistan. During the visit, the lawmakers will also meet members of the Pakistani diaspora. The meetings aim to highlight the role of overseas Pakistanis in promoting national interests in the United States.
Officials said the visit focuses on enhancing parliamentary diplomacy. It also seeks to improve legislative-to-legislative engagement between the two countries. The delegation will participate in multiple forums during its stay.
Inter-Parliamentary Group Session and Media Engagements
The visit will begin with an Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG) session at the Rayburn House Office Building on Wednesday. The session will be hosted by Congressman Al Green, who is serving as the congressional sponsor. Congressman Ron Estes is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
Several US lawmakers will take part in the discussions. Confirmed participants include Representatives Tom Suozzi, Laura Gillen, and Josh Gottheimer. The session will focus on parliamentary cooperation, regional security, and economic engagement.
On the Pakistani side, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, the chief whip of the Senate, will represent Pakistan. Senator Rana Mehmoodul Hassan, chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet, will also participate. The lawmakers are expected to discuss trade, security cooperation, and the role of diaspora-driven diplomacy.
Following the IPG session, the delegation will hold a press conference at the National Press Club. The briefing will allow the delegation to share Pakistanโs perspective with US and international media. Topics will include bilateral relations, parliamentary diplomacy, and future areas of cooperation.
Focus on Regional Stability and Diaspora Engagement
Dr Gholam Mujtaba, chairman of the Pakistan Policy Institute USA, has played a key role in organising the visit. He said the engagements are designed to deepen institutional cooperation and promote dialogue between legislatures.
He noted that the talks come at a sensitive time for global security. Developments in South Asia and the Middle East continue to affect international stability and economic interests. Pakistanโs strategic importance will be highlighted during the meetings.
Dr Mujtaba said the delegation will also emphasise Pakistanโs commitment to democratic values. The contribution of the Pakistani-American community will be a central theme of the discussions.
The visit will conclude with a diplomatic reception in Clifton, New Jersey, on January 24. The event will be attended by US lawmakers, city and state officials, and members of the Pakistani diaspora. The reception aims to encourage community-level cooperation and private-sector engagement.
Officials said the visit reflects Pakistanโs intent to strengthen ties with the US through sustained parliamentary dialogue. The delegation hopes the engagements will lead to stronger cooperation in trade, investment, and security.
