Pakistan is considering reassessing its participation in the ICC Menโs T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, following concerns raised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) over security issues in India. Sources told that Pakistan has expressed support for Bangladeshโs legitimate concerns, emphasizing that no team should face pressure or threats while participating in the tournament.
On January 11, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) offered to host Bangladeshโs matches if venues in Sri Lanka are unavailable. PCB officials highlighted Pakistanโs readiness to stage World Cup fixtures, citing their successful hosting of major ICC events, including the Champions Trophy 2025 and the ICC Womenโs Qualifier. The offer is aimed at ensuring Bangladesh can participate safely and without undue logistical challenges.
The BCB had decided against traveling to India due to security concerns, prompting discussions with the ICC on possible adjustments to their schedule, including a group-stage swap with Cricket Ireland (CI).
However, Cricket Ireland confirmed that all its group-stage matches will remain in Sri Lanka, dismissing claims of a proposed swap with Bangladesh. Irelandโs fixtures will proceed as scheduled, with matches against Sri Lanka, Australia, Zimbabwe, and Oman.
Bangladeshโs current group, Group B, includes West Indies, England, Nepal, and Italy, with matches scheduled in Kolkata and Mumbai. Their first three matches are set in Kolkata โ against West Indies on February 7, Italy on February 9, and England on February 14 โ followed by a final group match against Nepal in Mumbai on February 17.
The ICC Menโs T20 World Cup 2026 will run from February 7 to March 8 across India and Sri Lanka. Pakistanโs potential reassessment of participation underscores the sensitive security and diplomatic considerations surrounding the tournament, particularly regarding Bangladeshโs concerns and the need for a safe and fair competition for all teams.
