Australia Launches WACE Programme in Pakistan
Australia has launched a new education initiative for Pakistani students. The programme allows students to earn an Australian school qualification while studying in Pakistan. The announcement was made by Australian High Commissioner Timothy Kane.
In a post on X, Kane said Australia was proud to introduce the Western Australian Certificate of Education in Pakistan. He said the initiative offers students an Australian qualification at home. It also provides pathways to universities and global opportunities.
The programme is officially titled the Western Australian Certificate of Education, known as WACE. According to the programme’s website, WACE is a globally recognised senior secondary qualification. It is administered by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority. The authority operates under the Government of Western Australia.
The launch comes as many Pakistani students seek overseas education. Rising costs and visa challenges often make foreign study difficult. The WACE initiative aims to bridge this gap. It brings international education standards directly to local classrooms.
Global Recognition and University Pathways
For Pakistani students, WACE holds major academic value. The qualification is recognised as equivalent to Pakistan’s national senior secondary education standards. This equivalency allows students to apply to top local and international universities.
Students enrolled in the programme receive a unique Western Australian Student Identification Number. They also receive official certification from the School Curriculum and Standards Authority. These credentials enhance academic identity and global credibility.
The WACE curriculum focuses on modern learning methods. It replaces rote memorisation with conceptual understanding. Students are encouraged to think critically and apply knowledge to real-world problems. Inquiry-based learning is a core feature of the programme.
Graduates of WACE gain access to Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight universities. They can also apply to leading universities worldwide. Admission is based on the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank, known as ATAR. This ranking system is widely accepted by global institutions.
Scholarships, Exchanges, and Local Admissions

Engineering aspirants can appear in ECAT and the NUST Entry Test. Medical students remain eligible for the MDCAT exam. Law and management students can take LAT, LUMS SBASSE, and IBA admission tests. Design and liberal arts students can apply to NCA, IVS, Habib University, and other leading institutions.
