The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has formally opened the bidding process for the sale of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans, marking a significant development ahead of the leagueโs next cycle.
According to an official advertisement issued by the PCB, interested individuals and companies have been invited to submit their bids by January 30.
Following the deadline, the board will conduct a technical evaluation of all submitted proposals to assess eligibility, financial capacity, and compliance with PSL franchise requirements. A final list of qualified bidders will then be announced, after which the auction process will take place.
The PCB has clarified that the bidding process is open to all eligible parties, including former Multan Sultans owner Ali Khan Tareen, who may re-enter the race if he chooses. The franchise will be sold for the next 10-year PSL cycle, offering long-term ownership and commercial rights to the successful bidder.
Previously, the PCB had announced plans to manage Multan Sultans directly for PSL 11 following the conclusion of the previous ownership agreement. However, the board revisited its strategy after the recent auction of two new PSL teams generated higher-than-anticipated prices, reflecting growing commercial interest in the league.
Officials believe the strong valuations achieved by the new franchises indicate increased confidence among investors in the PSLโs brand value, viewership growth, and commercial potential. This optimism encouraged the PCB to put Multan Sultans back on the market rather than retaining ownership.
Multan Sultans, who joined the PSL in 2018, have established themselves as one of the leagueโs competitive sides and boast a strong fan base, particularly in southern Punjab. The franchise has also been praised for its professional management, talent development, and consistent on-field performances.
With the bidding process now underway, industry observers expect keen competition among local and international investors, potentially pushing the franchise valuation higher and further strengthening the PSLโs financial outlook ahead of future seasons.
