LAHORE: Lahore will relax enforcement of the sound system law on the occasion of the Basant festival as preparations across the city move into an advanced stage. Authorities confirmed on Monday that multiple departments have accelerated arrangements to ensure the event proceeds in an organized manner.
Meanwhile, the administration has begun decorating key areas in traditional yellow to reflect the cultural spirit associated with Basant. Officials said the measures aim to balance public celebration with regulatory oversight.
Registration process shows strong participation
The administration has continued the registration of kite sellers, manufacturers, and traders through the e-Biz portal to ensure accountability.
According to an official portal report, authorities received 993 applications in total. Of these, officials approved 650 applications and rejected 58, while field verification of 284 applications remains underway. For the sale of kites and string, authorities approved 340 out of 530 applications.
In addition, officials granted 218 kite makers permission to manufacture kites and string. The administration said the digital registration process has helped streamline scrutiny and improve transparency. As a result, authorities expect tighter monitoring of commercial activity linked to the festival.
Citywide decoration and timelines announced
The administration confirmed that 23 major roads will receive decorative lighting and yellow-themed embellishments to mark the occasion. These include Ravi Toll Plaza, GT Road, Pine Avenue, Niazi Interchange, Azadi Chowk, Circular Garden, Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam, Shadman, and MM Alam Road, along with several other key routes. Officials said the cityโs visual transformation will intensify in the coming days.
Registered kite and string manufacturers have already begun preparations since December 30. Meanwhile, licensed kite sellers will be allowed to start sales from February 1. Authorities said these timelines will help manage crowds, regulate business activity, and ensure smoother coordination across departments as Basant approaches.
