Indonesian defence minister meets army chief at GHQ to deepen Pakistan-Indonesia cooperation
Indonesiaโs Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin visited Pakistanโs General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and held talks with Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, signaling renewed momentum in bilateral defence engagement.
The high-level meeting underscored both countriesโ intent to expand cooperation at a time of evolving regional and global security challenges. Officials said the visit reflected the growing importance both sides attach to sustained military-to-military dialogue.
Leaders discuss security landscape and institutional ties
According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations, the two leaders reviewed the changing regional and international security environment and exchanged views on shared strategic concerns. They identified mutual areas of interest and explored practical avenues to enhance defence cooperation. The discussion focused on strengthening institutional linkages, expanding training exchanges, and building long-term collaboration frameworks.
Moreover, both sides highlighted the value of regular engagement between armed forces to promote understanding and operational coordination. Officials added that the meeting reinforced the commitment of Pakistan and Indonesia to work together through structured mechanisms rather than ad hoc contacts.

The ISPR said both delegations emphasized deeper cooperation in professional training and capacity building, alongside collaboration in the defence industry. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin praised the professional competence of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. He expressed a clear desire to further broaden defence ties and translate political goodwill into concrete outcomes.
Field Marshal Asim Munir, in response, reaffirmed Pakistanโs commitment to nurturing strong and enduring defence relations with Indonesia based on shared strategic interests and mutual respect.
