Renowned Pakistani actress and singer Shahida Mini recently shared her thoughts on the changing portrayal of femininity in the entertainment industry.
Known for her work in films such as Teefa Gujjar, Naseeb, and Anjuman, as well as dramas including Manjhdaar and Dehleez, Shahida Mini emphasized that while contemporary actresses are talented and beautiful, many lack the traditional feminine charm that characterized earlier performers.
During her appearance on the show Zabardast, hosted by Wasi Shah, the former Melody Queen reflected on how performers of previous generations used expressions, body language, and attire to authentically convey their characters. โI wonโt say that actresses today are not beautiful, but they seem to have lost the delicacy and charm traditionally associated with women,โ she said. โThey may have perfect features โ beautiful eyes, good height, flawless lips โ but without expressions, itโs like a doll with all the beauty but no life. Many current actresses also appear expressionless and often dress in ways that resemble men rather than reflecting the character they are portraying.โ
Shahida Mini highlighted that authenticity and character-driven presentation were hallmarks of earlier performances, with actors tailoring their appearance and expressions to suit the role.
She praised Mahira Khan and acknowledged the success of other contemporary performers but stressed the importance of preserving nuanced femininity in acting, which she believes adds depth and authenticity to storytelling.
Now enjoying life with her family, including her daughter married to actor Fahad Sheikh, Shahida Mini continues to serve as a respected voice in Pakistanโs entertainment landscape. Her reflections underscore the ongoing dialogue about evolving aesthetics and the balance between modernity and traditional performance values in the industry.
