About 19 Russian Generals have been killed since the beginning of Ukraine war. Russia-Ukraine was started four years ago which caused heavy casualties on both sides. The Insider reported the killing of 19 Russian Generals, citing intelligence and accounts from Russian and Ukrainian sources.
The investigation compiled names, dates, and circumstances to assess losses.
Confirmed deaths span multiple years
Those killed in 2022 included Andrei Sukhovetsky, Oleg Mityaev, Vladimir Frolov, Andrei Simonov, Kanamat Botashev and Roman Kutuzov. In subsequent years, Sergei Goryachev, Oleg Tsokov and Vladimir Zavadsky also died, according to the report.
More recently, losses included Igor Kirillov, who led Russiaโs radiation, chemical and biological defense troops; Yaroslav Moskalik, a deputy head of the General Staffโs main operational directorate; Mikhail Gudkov, deputy commander-in-chief of the Navy; and Fanil Sarvarov, head of the General Staffโs operational training department.
Deaths reported near front lines and beyond
The Insider said senior officers died both near the front lines and away from combat zones. Investigators attributed deaths to strikes on command posts, aviation incidents, explosions and suspected sabotage. Several generals reportedly died from sniper fire or artillery early in the war.
Moreover, some of the dead had retired or served with volunteer formations, including mercenary units and the Defense Ministryโs Storm Z formations composed of prison recruits.
Separately, a senior NATO official told the BBCโs Russian service in early December that Russian casualties could be nearing 1.15 million killed or wounded.
Additionally, BBC Russian and exiled outlet Mediazona said confirmed military deaths verified through open sources reached 152,142. They reported the highest confirmed fatalities in Bashkortostan, Tatarstan and the Sverdlovsk region. Overall toll rising.
