Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, addressing the 22nd Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, condemned Israel’s recognition of the self-declared “Somaliland” as an independent state.
He warned that the move could have serious, far-reaching consequences for regional peace and stability and described it as a direct assault on Somalia’s internationally recognized borders and a flagrant violation of international law.
Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Somalia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and development, stating that Islamabad will not allow steps undermining Somali unity.
Dar also highlighted the humanitarian situation in Gaza, calling for sustained efforts to end the conflict and ensure uninterrupted delivery of aid to civilians. He rejected any attempt to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land and reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for their right to self-determination.
On Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIJOK), Dar stressed the urgent need for a just, lasting, and peaceful resolution under UN auspices, consistent with relevant Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha described Israel’s recognition of “Somaliland” as a dangerous precedent, a violation of international law, and a threat to stability in the Horn of Africa. The OIC passed a resolution affirming full support for Somalia’s sovereignty and unity, condemning any foreign military, security, or intelligence presence on Somali territory, particularly Israeli involvement.
The resolution declared that “Somaliland” has no independent legal status and called on member states and international organisations to refrain from engagement with its authorities outside Somalia’s legitimate federal framework.
Another resolution warned against cooperating with Israeli schemes to forcibly displace Palestinians, stating that such actions would constitute complicity in crimes under international and humanitarian law.
The OIC urged its secretary general to engage the UN Security Council, General Assembly, and Secretary-General to highlight the severity of Israel’s actions and called on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities to protect peace in the Horn of Africa.
