Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday announced the formation of a committee to review the progress of federal government-sponsored development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The committee will be headed by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and tasked with assessing the status of ongoing schemes to ensure their timely completion.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Ministerโs Office Media Wing, the committee will visit Peshawar and, in coordination with elected public representatives, conduct a detailed review of development projects being funded by the Centre. The initiative aims to identify bottlenecks, evaluate implementation progress and propose measures to accelerate work on projects of public importance.
The decision was taken during a meeting between the prime minister and political representatives from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.ย During the interaction, the premier assured participants that the federal government remained fully committed to completing Centre-funded development initiatives in the province within stipulated timelines.
He said the government was mindful of the difficulties faced by the people of KP and was taking concrete steps, within its constitutional mandate, to address those challenges through sustainable and long-term solutions.
A comprehensive discussion was also held on the overall political situation in the province, governance-related challenges and issues affecting public welfare. Development projects, service delivery and administrative matters were among the key topics discussed during the meeting.
Participants informed the prime minister that the provincial government had failed to deliver due to what they described as a lack of effective governance. They said there was no clear provincial policy on critical sectors such as health, education, infrastructure and public welfare, and alleged that insufficient attention was being given to resolving day-to-day problems faced by citizens.
In response, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged public representatives to focus on addressing public grievances and prioritising service delivery. He highlighted recent federal initiatives in the province, including the distribution of laptops on merit among male and female students in Haripur, as part of efforts to promote education and youth empowerment.
The prime minister reiterated that the federal government would continue to support development and welfare-oriented projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to improve living standards and strengthen institutional capacity.
