Minneapolis Incident Triggers National Outcry
The fatal shooting of 37-year-old activist Renee Good by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis has ignited widespread protests across the United States. Good, a mother of three, was killed Wednesday while participating in a neighborhood patrol monitoring ICE activities.

Vice President JD Vance and other Trump administration officials argued state authorities have no jurisdiction over federal agents.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and civil liberties advocates challenged this account. By-stander videos show Good driving calmly while an officer fires three shots at her SUV. The footage appears to contradict claims that she tried to run over the officer, Jonathan Ross, who remained on his feet after the shooting.
The tragic incident occurred just a few blocks from the site where George Floyd was killed in 2020, evoking painful memories and intensifying public outrage. Minneapolis residents held a “noise protest” outside a hotel housing visiting ICE agents. Protesters used drums, pots, whistles, and flashlights to create a high-energy demonstration. Police declared the assembly unlawful and detained at least 30 participants.

The Minneapolis shooting is part of a series of recent violent encounters involving federal immigration agents. Earlier in the week, a Border Patrol agent in Portland, Oregon, shot and injured two individuals in a vehicle. Both incidents highlight growing tensions between federal authorities and local governments.
Minnesota authorities have placed the National Guard on alert amid escalating protests. The events have reignited debates over the militarized deployment of ICE agents, migrant rights, and federal overreach. Civil rights groups stress that independent investigations are essential to hold agents accountable and restore public trust.
