Shooting Outside In-Lawsโ Home Shocks Local Community
A serving police inspector in Karachi has been arrested for allegedly murdering his second wife in a shocking incident that took place in the Shadman Town area. The incident has triggered widespread outrage and renewed concerns about domestic violence and misuse of authority within law enforcement ranks.
The accused has been identified as Inspector Tabassum Ahmed, who was posted to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU). According to police officials, the incident occurred on Friday when the inspector went to his wifeโs parentsโ residence. He allegedly intended to take her back home with him.
Police said the woman had been living at her parentsโ house for nearly a year due to ongoing marital disputes. When Inspector Tabassum reportedly asked her to return with him, she refused. Moments later, he allegedly pulled out his government-issued 9mm pistol and opened fire.
The woman sustained critical injuries and died on the spot before medical assistance could arrive. The incident occurred in a residential area, causing panic among neighbours and passersby.
Daughterโs Eyewitness Account and CCTV Evidence
The victimโs daughter, who witnessed the shooting, provided a detailed statement to the police. She told investigators that her mother was about to get into a vehicle when the accused arrived at the scene.
According to her account, Inspector Tabassum asked the victim to accompany him. When she declined, he allegedly fired multiple shots. The daughter further stated that the accused then turned his weapon toward her and attempted to shoot her as well.
She managed to escape by running inside the house, narrowly avoiding injury. Her testimony has been described by investigators as crucial to the case.
Police officials also confirmed that CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced. The footage reportedly captures the moments leading up to the shooting and the accused fleeing the scene. Investigators say the video evidence supports the eyewitness account and will play a key role in the prosecution.
Following his arrest, Inspector Tabassum reportedly told police that he suspected his wifeโs character and believed she was in contact with someone else. Authorities have described this claim as unjustified and said it does not excuse the alleged crime.
Immediate Arrest Ordered, Special Team Formed
After the incident was reported, Additional Inspector General (IG) Karachi ordered the immediate arrest of the suspect. SSP Central Zeeshan Shafique Siddiqui constituted a special investigation team to trace and apprehend the accused.
The team successfully arrested Inspector Tabassum within hours of the incident. Police recovered the government-issued 9mm pistol allegedly used in the killing from his possession.
SSP Central confirmed that the accused did not report for duty on the day of the incident. Records show that Inspector Tabassum was actively serving in the SIU and had been assigned to investigate sensitive cases, including extortion and murder.
Police officials also revealed that the weapon used in the crime was officially issued to him by the SIU. This has raised serious questions about weapon oversight and accountability mechanisms within the police department.
Senior police officers have stated that the case will be investigated transparently. They stressed that no leniency would be shown due to the accusedโs position.
The incident has reignited debate over domestic violence, mental health screening, and internal discipline within law enforcement agencies. Rights activists and legal experts have called for swift justice and stronger safeguards to prevent abuse of power.
Authorities say a murder case has been registered, and further legal proceedings are underway. The accused will be presented before a court after completion of initial investigations.
