ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan met his wife Bushra Bibi at Rawalpindiโs Adiala jail on Wednesday, jail sources confirmed. The meeting took place in the prisonโs conference room and lasted around 45 minutes.
According to sources, the couple inquired about each otherโs health during the meeting. Jail officials said the interaction was held strictly in accordance with prison rules. They added that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi had also met last week under the same procedures.
Essential items delivered to jail
Sources further said that the jail administration received essential items on Tuesday through Bushra Bibiโs lawyer. These included blankets, warm clothes, fruits, and dates, which were handed over following routine checks by prison authorities.
Both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are currently incarcerated at Adiala jail in connection with multiple cases. The former prime minister has remained behind bars since August 2023, facing a range of charges, including corruption and terrorism-related allegations. Imran Khan has consistently denied all accusations, while PTI maintains that the cases are politically motivated.
Legal background and restrictions on meetings
Last month, a special court sentenced Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to 17 years in prison each in the Toshakhana-2 case. The case relates to the alleged under-priced purchase of luxury state gifts during Khanโs time in office.
Meetings with the jailed PTI founder have remained a contentious issue between the party and the government. Authorities recently imposed a blanket ban on meetings with Imran Khan until February 8, citing alleged violations of prison rules by his sisters. Despite the restrictions, meetings permitted under prison regulations, including with his spouse, have continued.
