The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced major progress on three key motorway projects. These projects aim to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and promote economic growth across the province. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi chaired a high-level meeting to review developments in the road sector.
Senior officials briefed the chief minister on planning, approvals, and execution timelines. The meeting focused on Swat Motorway Phase II, the PeshawarโDera Ismail Khan Motorway, and the Dir Motorway. Several important decisions were taken to speed up construction work.
Swat Motorway Phase II Declared Flagship Project
The chief minister directed authorities to begin construction of Swat Motorway Phase II without delay. He termed it a flagship project of the provincial government. Departments were instructed to resolve all technical and administrative hurdles immediately.
Swat Motorway Phase II will extend over 80 kilometers. It will run from Chakdara Interchange to Fatehpur. The project includes nine interchanges to improve local access. Seven bridges will also be constructed at different points over the Swat River.
Officials informed the meeting that the motorway will significantly ease travel for residents and tourists. It will enhance access to Swat and surrounding districts. The chief minister emphasized timely execution and strict monitoring. He stressed transparency in spending and quality in construction.
The government plans to complete the project under a public-private partnership model. This approach aims to reduce financial burden while ensuring efficient delivery.
PeshawarโDI Khan Motorway to Improve Provincial Connectivity
The meeting also reviewed progress on the PeshawarโDera Ismail Khan Motorway. The chief minister announced that the foundation stone will be laid soon. This project is considered vital for north-south connectivity within the province.
The motorway will stretch 365 kilometers. It will include 19 interchanges to link major towns and cities. Two tunnels will also be part of the project to improve safety and travel speed.
Officials stated that the motorway will boost trade and transport. It will connect southern districts with the provincial capital. The project is expected to support economic activity and job creation.
Like Swat Motorway Phase II, this motorway will also be developed through a public-private partnership. The chief minister instructed departments to finalize agreements and approvals quickly.
Dir Motorway to Be Built with Provincial Resources
For the Dir Motorway, the meeting decided in principle to use provincial funding. The government will construct the project entirely from its own resources. This decision reflects the priority given to remote and underdeveloped areas.
The chief minister directed departments to complete legal and administrative requirements at the earliest. He stressed that no unnecessary delays should occur. Practical work should begin as soon as approvals are completed.
He stated that the government is using available resources effectively. Development projects are being executed with transparency and accountability. The focus remains on improving infrastructure in far-flung regions.
The chief minister added that these motorways will bring long-term benefits. They will improve mobility, attract investment, and support regional development. The projects reflect the governmentโs commitment to inclusive growth across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
