Millie Bobby Brown rose to global fame after her breakout performance as Eleven in Netflixโs hit series Stranger Things. However, the actress has revealed that there was another role she deeply wanted but failed to secure, a missed opportunity she believes could have altered her career path.
In a 2019 interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Brown reflected on auditioning for HBOโs globally acclaimed series Game of Thrones. She described the rejection for the role of Lyanna Mormont as particularly painful, noting that the character was later portrayed by Bella Ramsey. At the time, Game of Thrones stood as one of the most influential English-language television series in the world.
Brown explained that rejection remains a constant challenge in the entertainment industry. Moreover, she admitted that the disappointment left her disheartened during her early years as an actress. โThis industry is just full of rejection 24/7,โ she said, adding that failing to land the role made her realize how difficult the profession could be.
Despite professional setbacks, Brown said rumours about her appearance also took an emotional toll. Earlier speculation suggested that she had undergone plastic surgery, claims she firmly denied. Speaking to British Vogue, the actress said the rumours pushed her into a period of depression, during which she felt overwhelmed by harsh commentary about her looks.
While she acknowledged the role of journalism and paparazzi culture, Brown urged media outlets to exercise sensitivity. She said intrusive headlines can deeply affect young performers, even when public attention is part of the job.
Nevertheless, Brown has continued to thrive professionally. Stranger Things, the series that launched her career, remains one of Netflixโs most successful productions. The showโs finale is currently streaming, marking the conclusion of a defining chapter in her acting journey.
