ISLAMABAD: The base price for the two new franchises to be added to the Pakistan Super League has been fixed at approximately Rs100 crore, according to sources familiar with the matter. The development marks a significant step forward as the countryโs premier T20 tournament prepares for expansion, reflecting the leagueโs growing commercial value and popularity.
Sources said the Pakistan Cricket Board has finalised a list of 10 bidders who will take part in the auction process for the new teams. As a result, preparations for the bidding event have entered their final phase. The auction is scheduled to take place in Islamabad on January 8 and is expected to attract strong interest from investors and cricket stakeholders.
Moreover, the event is likely to gain additional prominence due to its high-profile arrangements. Sources revealed that renowned singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will perform at the auction ceremony, adding a cultural and entertainment element to the proceedings. Consequently, the auction is expected to become a major attraction, combining sports, business, and entertainment on one platform.
Expansion plans and auction details
With the addition of two new franchises, the PSL aims to broaden its reach and strengthen its competitive structure. According to sources, the PCB has carefully evaluated financial benchmarks before setting the base price. Therefore, the Rs100 crore valuation reflects both market demand and the leagueโs long-term commercial strategy.
Industry observers believe that the expansion will create new opportunities for regional representation and fan engagement. Furthermore, it is expected to enhance broadcast value and sponsorship interest, thereby increasing overall revenue for the league. The Islamabad auction will serve as a key milestone in this expansion journey.
Infrastructure upgrades ahead of Champions Trophy
Separately, the Pakistan Cricket Board has expressed satisfaction over the development of cricket infrastructure during 2025 as part of preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy.
