ISLAMABAD: Inspired by Pakistan’s billions tree green revolution, Saudi Arabia invited Prime Minister Imran Khan to participate in the โMiddle East Green Initiative Summitโ being held in October.
Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmad Al-Malkiy, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan, delivered the invitation to Prime Minister Khan at his office on Friday, PM Office said in a statement issued on July 30, adding PM Khan has accepted the invitation and will participate in the summit.
In March, the Saudi leadership launched the โSaudi Greenโ and โMiddle East Greenโ schemes aimed at cutting carbon emissions by 60 per cent by using clean hydrocarbon technologies and planting 50 billion trees, including 10 billion in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Green initiative has more domestic focus, while the Kingdom is trying through the Middle East Green initiative to lead regional efforts for attaining global targets to combat climate change.
Pakistan was among the first countries to welcome the initiatives. PM Khan in a letter to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman had offered Pakistanโs help to support the massive tree plantation projects by the Saudi government.
The PM Office said the Saudi initiatives aligned closely with the Pakistani prime ministerโs climate change initiatives โ โClean and Green Pakistanโ and โ10 Billion Tree Tsunamiโ.
โPakistan and Saudi Arabia are also collaborating closely to develop synergies in their climate-change related strategies,โ it further said.
