YouTuber Rajab Butt has filed a case against more than a dozen lawyers who allegedly assaulted him at an additional district and sessions court in Karachi. The complaint was lodged at the City Court Police Station under Sections 147, 148, 337-A, 382, and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code by Buttโs counsel, Mian Ashfaq Ali.
According to the complaint, Butt and his counsel were attending bail proceedings when 15 to 20 lawyers allegedly attacked him. The incident followed the circulation of a video showing Butt, who appeared alongside TikToker Nadeem Mubara, being assaulted in court over a case linked to a controversial statement. Butt sustained injuries, including a bloodied mouth and a torn shirt.
The complainant identified some of the alleged attackers as Advocate Riaz Ali Solangi and Advocate Abdul Fatah, along with several unidentified individuals. Buttโs legal team reported being harassed and threatened with murder during the incident.
In addition, the attackers allegedly snatched a bag from Butt containing Rs300,000 in cash. While the bag was later returned by Advocate Riaz Ali Solangi, the cash was missing, according to the complaint.
The lawyers involved claimed that Butt had previously made derogatory remarks against them in a vlog, saying that the person who filed a case against him โdoes not seem like a lawyer.โ The assault has raised concerns over courtroom safety and the conduct of legal professionals during proceedings.
The case highlights a tense confrontation between social media personalities and members of the legal fraternity, emphasizing the need for stricter security measures within court premises to prevent such incidents in the future. Authorities are expected to investigate the matter and determine accountability for the assault and alleged theft.
