PESHAWAR: Funeral prayers for Pakistan Army officer Major Adeel Zaman Shaheed, who embraced martyrdom during a security operation in Bajaur district, were offered on Thursday at the Peshawar Garrison, marking a solemn moment for the armed forces and the nation.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir attended the funeral prayers and led tributes to the fallen officer. Federal Interior Minister, Corps Commander Peshawar, senior military leadership, government officials, and a large number of civilians also joined the ceremony. The gathering reflected national unity and respect for the sacrifices rendered by members of the security forces in the fight against terrorism.
Tributes Paid to the Fallen Officer
During the ceremony, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir paid rich tribute to Major Adeel Zaman Shaheed, emphasizing that the martyrs of the Pakistan Army stand as the pride of the nation. He stated that their sacrifices form the foundation of national security and will always remain etched in the collective memory of the people. Furthermore, he highlighted that such acts of valor inspire future generations to serve the country with courage and dedication.
ISPR reported that the Field Marshal offered special prayers for the elevation of the martyrโs ranks and sought patience and strength for the bereaved family. Meanwhile, military officials reiterated that the nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the families of martyrs, acknowledging their immense sacrifice for peace and stability.
Full Military Honors and Commitment Against Terrorism
Major Adeel Zaman Shaheed will be laid to rest with full military honors in his hometown of Dera Ismail Khan. The funeral arrangements underscore the armed forcesโ tradition of honoring those who lay down their lives in the line of duty. Consequently, the ceremony served as a reminder of the high cost paid by security personnel to safeguard the country.
Later, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Peshawar, where he met officers and soldiers injured during the same operation. He praised their bravery, resilience, and professional commitment. Moreover, he expressed heartfelt wishes for their swift recovery and commended their unwavering resolve in confronting terrorist threats.
According to ISPR, the Pakistan Armed Forces remain fully committed to eliminating terrorism from the country. Therefore, the sacrifices of martyrs and the determination of wounded soldiers continue to reinforce this resolve, strengthening national efforts to ensure lasting peace and security.

A Pakistan Army major was martyred while five terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwaโs Bajaur district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed on Monday.
Major Adeel Zaman Sacrifices Life in Firefight
During the intense firefight, Major Adeel Zaman, 36, a resident of Dera Ismail Khan, was leading his troops from the front. The ISPR said he โfought gallantlyโ but ultimately embraced martyrdom. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists, highlighting their active involvement in terrorism.
