ISLAMABAD: The last public holiday of 2025 will be observed on December 25, 2025, Thursday. On Wednesday (Dec 17), Sindh government announced a public holiday on December 25, 2025. The holiday is connected to the birthday anniversary of the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Christmas.
The announcement applies to all provincial government institutions and bodies operating under the administrative control of the Sindh government. The Services, General Administration and Coordination Department issued the notification, confirming that government offices will remain closed to mark the dual significance of the day.
Departments and Institutions Covered
According to the notification, the holiday will be observed by all government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils functioning under the Sindh government’s authority.
However, the government clarified that the holiday will not apply to departments engaged in essential services. Institutions responsible for critical public functions, including emergency response and other vital operations, will continue to work as required.
The provincial government has formally circulated copies of the notification to relevant federal and provincial departments to ensure effective implementation. These include the Establishment Division, the Board of Revenue Sindh, the Sindh High Court, the Accountant General Sindh, police authorities, administrative secretaries, commissioners and deputy commissioners.
Officials have been instructed to take necessary action and ensure that the holiday is observed in accordance with government directives.
Significance of December 25
December 25 holds national and religious importance in Pakistan. Quaid-e-Azam Day commemorates the birth anniversary of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, who is widely revered for his leadership in the country’s independence movement and the creation of the state in 1947.
The same day is also observed as Christmas by the Christian community across Pakistan. Churches and Christian families mark the occasion with religious services, prayers and celebrations, making December 25 a symbol of religious harmony and coexistence.

2026 Holidays Schedule (possible)
The possible holiday schedule for 2026 has surfaced in Pakistan. The first holiday of the year is expected on February 5 for Kashmir Day. Citizens will likely enjoy a three-day Eid-ul-Fitr break from March 21 to March 23. The country will observe Labour Day on May 1. Eid-ul-Azha holidays are expected from May 27 to May 29. Independence Day will fall on August 14 as a national holiday. Pakistanis may also observe a holiday on August 26 for Jashn-e-Eid Milad-un-Nabi. Iqbal Day will be marked on November 9. December 25 will be a holiday for Quaid-e-Azam’s birth anniversary and Christmas. The Christian community will also receive a separate holiday on December 26.
