The government has announced a public holiday on December 25, 2025. The holiday is connected to the birthday anniversary of the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Christmas.
So far, the Sindh government has declared Thursday, December 25, 2025, a public holiday across the province. The federal government and other provinces are also going to declare a public holiday on December 25, 2025.
The announcement applies to all provincial government institutions and bodies operating under the administrative control of the Sindh government.ย The Services, General Administration and Coordination Department issued the notification, confirming that government offices will remain closed to mark the dual significance of the day.
Departments and Institutions Covered
According to the notification, the holiday will be observed by all government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils functioning under the Sindh governmentโs authority.
However, the government clarified that the holiday will not apply to departments engaged in essential services. Institutions responsible for critical public functions, including emergency response and other vital operations, will continue to work as required.
The notification, dated December 11, 2025, was issued with the approval of the competent authority and signed by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah.
Official Circulation and Implementation
The provincial government has formally circulated copies of the notification to relevant federal and provincial departments to ensure effective implementation. These include the Establishment Division, the Board of Revenue Sindh, the Sindh High Court, the Accountant General Sindh, police authorities, administrative secretaries, commissioners and deputy commissioners.
Officials have been instructed to take necessary action and ensure that the holiday is observed in accordance with government directives.
Significance of December 25
December 25 holds national and religious importance in Pakistan. Quaid-e-Azam Day commemorates the birth anniversary of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, who is widely revered for his leadership in the countryโs independence movement and the creation of the state in 1947.
The same day is also observed as Christmas by the Christian community across Pakistan. Churches and Christian families mark the occasion with religious services, prayers and celebrations, making December 25 a symbol of religious harmony and coexistence.
Public Advisory
The Sindh government advised citizens to plan their official work accordingly, as most provincial government offices will remain closed on December 25. Members of the public seeking services from essential departments have been urged to confirm operating hours in advance.
The announcement aligns with long-standing practice, as December 25 has traditionally been observed as a public holiday across Pakistan to honour Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and celebrate Christmas.
