PM Shehbaz said peaceful dispute resolution shapes Pakistan’s foreign policy. He highlighted Pakistan’s active role at the United Nations. Pakistan currently serves as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. The country continues to promote dialogue and cooperation.
Turkiye Backs Pakistan-Afghanistan Ceasefire Efforts
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed Turkiye’s support for regional peace. He offered to help strengthen a stability mechanism. The mechanism aims to sustain the ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan. President Erdogan shared this commitment during talks with PM Shehbaz.
The prime minister welcomed Turkiye’s support. He thanked Turkiye, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the UAE. These countries helped broker the ceasefire between Islamabad and Kabul. The ceasefire remains in place but faces challenges.
PM Shehbaz warned about growing terrorist threats. He said militant groups operate from Afghan territory. He urged the international community to press the Afghan Taliban. He called for concrete action to meet international obligations. Regional security depends on effective counterterrorism steps.
Pakistan’s Peace Vision and Global Responsibilities
PM Shehbaz spoke about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He called for protection of civilians. He supported a lasting ceasefire and uninterrupted aid. He stressed the need for reconstruction efforts.
Pakistan supports the Gaza Peace Plan. The UN Security Council later endorsed the plan. PM Shehbaz also mentioned Resolution 2788. The resolution promotes peaceful settlement of disputes.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for self-determination. He highlighted Palestine and Kashmir. He linked long-term peace with sustainable development. The 2030 Agenda offers a clear path forward, he said.
Pakistan has improved financial inclusion. Women and marginalised groups now participate more in the economy. Climate change continues to threaten development. PM Shehbaz called for fair access to digital technologies worldwide.
Bilateral Meetings and Regional Connectivity
PM Shehbaz met several leaders on the sidelines of the forum. He held discussions with leaders from Russia, Iran, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. He also attended a ceremony at the Neutrality Monument. Leaders stressed the importance of regional connectivity.
Later, PM Shehbaz met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Both leaders praised mutual support during recent tensions. They discussed trade expansion and border markets. Border security and transport links remained key topics.
The Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul rail link received strong focus. PM Shehbaz raised concerns about terrorism again. Both sides agreed to continue high-level engagement.
PM Shehbaz also met President Erdogan. They discussed cooperation in energy, defence, and investment. The prime minister welcomed Turkish interest in minerals and petroleum. Both leaders agreed to strengthen bilateral ties and regional connectivity.
