ISLAMABAD: Senator Faisal Vawda claimed on Thursday that court-martialled former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid will testify against PTI founder Imran Khan. He said Faiz Hamid will also present evidence against the jailed former prime minister. Vawda made the remarks during a Geo News programme.
Hamid receives 14-year sentence
Earlier in the day, the Field General Court Martial sentenced Hamid to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment. ISPR said the conviction involved political activities and breaches of the Official Secrets Act. Vawda insisted Imran Khan now faces a tightening legal squeeze linked to the May 9 cases.
May 9 events deepen legal pressure
The May 9 unrest followed Imran Khan’s arrest at the Islamabad High Court in 2023. Protesters targeted civil and military sites, including the Corps Commander’s House in Lahore and the GHQ in Rawalpindi. Vawda warned that the legal process will intensify. He said Hamid’s prison term will not be reduced.
Vawda links Hamid to May 9 information leaks
Vawda alleged that Hamid was responsible for sharing details of military installations before the May 9 riots. He claimed the PTI and its founder face the most serious consequences once investigators establish facts.
Bajwa criticised but termed exonerated
Vawda criticised former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, calling his actions negligent and incompetent. He said Bajwa later tried to remove Hamid but has now been deemed exonerated and faces no action.
Defence minister alleges joint plan
Speaking in the same programme, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif alleged a coordinated plan behind the May 9 attacks. He claimed Imran Khan and Hamid acted together to overturn the appointment of Army Chief Asim Munir. Asif said Imran Khan could not have carried out the events alone and that Hamid maintained influence after retirement. He added that more cases may follow.
