The General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat of UAE has introduced a major policy shift by announcing a unified national timing for the Friday sermon and prayer. The new schedule will come into effect on January 2, 2026, and mandates that all mosques across the country begin the sermon and prayer at 12:45pm. Officials said the directive seeks to bring consistency and clarity to prayer schedules that previously varied between emirates.
Call for Punctual Attendance at Mosques
The authority urged worshippers to reach mosques ahead of the scheduled time, stressing that late arrival may cause individuals to miss essential parts of the sermon. Officials highlighted that early attendance is an important religious practice, ensuring that worshippers receive the complete spiritual benefit associated with the Friday congregational prayer. The emphasis on punctuality also aligns with the authority’s broader efforts to cultivate discipline and respect for communal worship.
Enhancing Unity, Coordination and Worship Experience
By implementing a unified timing, authorities aim to strengthen national cohesion and improve organisational efficiency within the religious sector. The move facilitates better coordination across mosques, particularly regarding sermon preparation, administrative management, and logistical arrangements. Officials said the standardisation reflects the UAE’s continued commitment to enhancing the worship experience and sense of unity among residents.
The new prayer schedule is also expected to support smoother operations during Friday gatherings, especially in densely populated areas where mosques experience high attendance. Through this initiative, the UAE seeks to reinforce a shared national rhythm for the weekly prayer, ensuring that communities across all emirates observe the sermon and prayer simultaneously.
