The Directorate General of Immigration & Passports has introduced a new digital system that allows passport applicants to capture and upload their fingerprints online, marking a major step forward in Pakistan’s e-passport and digital identity initiatives.
The upgrade eliminates the need for applicants—especially overseas Pakistanis—to visit passport offices for biometric verification. Previously, fingerprints for machine-readable passports (MRPs) could only be recorded in person using dedicated biometric devices.
Under the new system, applicants can submit fingerprints through two methods:
1. Via the Pak-ID Mobile App
Users can capture fingerprints in real time using their smartphone cameras. The app, available on both Android and iOS, guides applicants with step-by-step instructions to ensure correct positioning and image quality.
2. By Uploading a Scanned Fingerprint Form
Applicants may download a fingerprint Performa from the DGIP e-services portal, manually record their fingerprints on the form, scan it at a 600-dpi resolution, and upload the image online.
The initiative is expected to significantly streamline the application process and enhance accessibility for citizens worldwide.
