ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced a new artificial intelligence-based application on Friday to curb illegal immigration. He revealed the initiative while co-chairing a meeting with Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain. The meeting focused on immigration reforms designed to facilitate citizens. It also aimed to improve Pakistan’s global image. Officials said the pilot project will help authorities detect fake travel documents.
AI System to Identify Travel Eligibility
Naqvi stated that the AI-based app will determine who is fit to travel and who is not. He said the government intends to stop illegal immigration through advanced screening methods. He added that zero tolerance will be adopted against fake visas and agent mafias. The app will support authorities in identifying forged documents with greater accuracy. It will also reduce opportunities for fraudulent travel attempts.
Crackdown Planned Against Human Smuggling Networks
During the meeting, officials approved strict action against those travelling abroad on forged documents. They also approved a crackdown on elements involved in fake visa networks. Authorities directed relevant departments to submit final recommendations on the reforms within seven days. Naqvi said the government intends to eliminate agent groups that exploit vulnerable citizens. He stressed that strong enforcement will help restore international confidence.
Reforms to Strengthen the Protector System
Naqvi announced that the system for issuing Protectors will be made foolproof. He said the reform package aims to protect Pakistanis travelling for work abroad. He added that immigration procedures will become more efficient for passengers. He stated that the passports of deported individuals will be cancelled. He also said these individuals will not receive new visas in the future.
Additional Measures to Improve Documentation
The interior minister revealed plans to issue a uniform international driving licence through the National Police Bureau. He said Pakistan remains in contact with other countries to improve the ranking of the green passport. He warned that people using illegal routes damage the nation’s reputation. He emphasised that immigration reforms aim to provide convenience and improve the country’s global standing.
Overseas Ministry Extends Full Support
Federal Minister Salik Hussain highlighted the need for genuine documentation for labour visa applicants. He said authentic papers are essential for safe employment abroad. He confirmed that the Overseas Ministry will support improvements in the Protector system. He added that cooperation will continue to strengthen the wider immigration framework.
