They tore several copies of the Quran and threw them onto the floor. The group reported the incident on X on Sunday. It said Muslims across France feel shocked and deeply hurt by the attack. The Council stressed that no physical injuries occurred during the intrusion. However, it warned that the act carries serious symbolic and emotional consequences for the community.
Concerns Over Rising Hostility
The Council expressed concern about a growing toxic climate in France. It said biased surveys and reports have recently fuelled suspicion toward Muslims. It also criticised political proposals that it believes stigmatise the Muslim community. The organisation called the act a serious Islamophobic incident. It said the desecration reflects an escalating hatred that authorities must not underestimate. Furthermore, it stressed the need for action to prevent similar attacks. The Council urged officials to safeguard religious spaces and reassure vulnerable communities.
Turkish-Muslim Association Also Targeted
Another disturbing incident occurred on Wednesday in Montreal-la-Cluse. The Montreal-la-Cluse Cultural Center, affiliated with the Turkish-Muslim group DITIB, discovered a bullet in its mailbox. The association said the bullet appeared to come from a firearm. It condemned the attack as an assault on the local Turkish community. It added that the act targeted the principle of living together in harmony. The group said the attack aimed to disrupt an atmosphere of serenity in the town. It stressed that such incidents threaten social cohesion and mutual respect.
Calls for Legal Action and Vigilance
The association pledged to pursue all required legal measures. It said it will follow the case with maximum seriousness. Both organisations urged authorities to address rising hostility against Muslim communities. They also called for stronger protection of religious centres. The incidents raised concerns among Muslim groups about increasing intolerance. Community leaders stressed the importance of calm, dialogue, and firm legal responses to hate-driven actions.
