Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced a major protest outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on December 2. The decision follows repeated refusals by authorities to allow a meeting between jailed party founder Imran Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
KP Leadership Plans Fresh Strategy
PTI KP spokesperson Adeel Iqbal revealed that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi reached Peshawar to lead a key parliamentary committee meeting. The session, scheduled for Sunday, will focus on creating a clear and final strategy for securing a meeting with Imran Khan.
He stated that the chief minister will brief party members on the situation outside Adiala Jail. He stressed that this time the plan will be firm, organised, and goal-oriented.
PTI Warns of Response to “Unlawful Actions”
Iqbal added that the party will respond strongly to any action it considers unlawful. He claimed that those who “violate the Constitution” will soon be held accountable.
The protest plan emerged after Afridi was denied a meeting with Imran Khan for the eighth consecutive time since becoming KP chief minister. Speaking at the Gorakhpur checkpoint on November 27, Afridi said the party had exhausted all legal and democratic options. He described the upcoming protest as their “last option”.
Afridi’s Failed Attempts to Meet Imran Khan
Afridi earlier held a 16-hour sit-in outside Adiala Road, demanding a one-on-one meeting with the former prime minister. He later moved to the Islamabad High Court seeking permission, but he was unable to meet the chief justice.
According to Afridi, the chief justice conveyed that he could not hold a meeting with the KP CM.
Contempt Petition Filed Against Jail Authorities
Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, filed a contempt of court petition against the Adiala Jail superintendent. She argued that authorities failed to follow earlier court orders allowing a meeting with the PTI founder.
Government Signals Possible Meeting Next Week
State Minister for Law Aqeel Malik said that a meeting could take place next Tuesday after evaluating security concerns. He mentioned that one of Khan’s sisters or one of his lawyers may be allowed to meet him.
He also said the PTI was seeking a political meeting, adding that no political discussions took place when people met former prime minister Nawaz Sharif during his imprisonment.
