ISLAMABAD: A new domestic airline started its flights in Pakistan to boost regional connectivity and expanding affordable travel options across the country. The Civil Aviation Authority has announced the launch of flights of South Air in the country.
Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani chaired the launching ceremony of the South Air. He described the launch as a “historic step,” noting that the new carrier will help link smaller and underserved cities in South Punjab, interior Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said stronger air links would support local development, enhance access to services and promote national cohesion.
South Air’s first commercial flight is scheduled to operate between Karachi and Multan. The airline plans to expand its network by adding additional destinations as operations scale up.
Gilani, recalling his long personal association with Multan, said the launch of the new carrier would boost confidence in the region’s economic and cultural potential. He urged the airline’s management to keep fares affordable so that people from all income groups can benefit, noting that even lawmakers often face difficulties due to high ticket prices.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by South Air executives, parliamentarians and business leaders. Officials expressed optimism that the new carrier would stimulate economic activity, create jobs and provide passengers with more convenient domestic travel options.
