Ali Tareen has officially stepped down from his role as owner of the Multan Sultans, bringing an emotional close to a chapter that he described as one of the greatest honors of his life. In a heartfelt message shared on X, he expressed deep gratitude to the teamโs supporters and reaffirmed his strong bond with the franchise and the South Punjab region it represents.
Tareen reflected on his journey with the Sultans, emphasizing that the team had always meant far more to him than a business venture. He highlighted the unwavering loyalty of the fans and the immense pride his late uncle, Alamgir Tareen, had felt in the teamโs connection to South Punjab. Representing the region, he said, was something profoundly meaningful to him and a responsibility he cherished.
Despite acknowledging financial challenges, Tareen stressed that profit was never his motivation for staying with the franchise. He revealed that even during difficult times, stepping away had never crossed his mind. The Sultans, he explained, were not about balance sheetsโthey were about people, passion, and purpose.
Tareen also noted that some of his decisions as owner may not have been universally popular, but insisted that he had always acted with honesty and integrity. He made it clear that compromising his principles was not an option, stating that under such circumstances, stepping down was the only choice he could make.
In his message, he reminded fans that the team ultimately belongs to them and to South Punjab, regardless of who assumes ownership next. The Multan Sultans, he said, have always been bigger than any individual. Tareen concluded by assuring supporters that while he may no longer own the team, he would continue to stand with them in the stadiums, cheering passionately from the stands and backing the Sultans every step of the way.
