The Ministry of Planning has projected that more than 95,000 employment opportunities are likely to be generated across Pakistan over the next five to seven years.
These jobs are expected to arise from the implementation of major development projects currently underway in multiple sectors, reflecting the governmentโs commitment to national growth and infrastructure expansion.
In October 2025 alone, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approved 12 development projects covering critical areas such as energy, water, agriculture, governance, health, and education.
Additionally, six major development initiatives have already been forwarded to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for final approval. From these projects, an estimated 2,501 immediate jobs are expected to be created, providing a short-term boost to employment while laying the foundation for longer-term growth.
The government has also released Rs330 billion from the Rs1,000 billion Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) budget within the first four months of the fiscal year, representing approximately 33% of the total allocation. Of this, over Rs134 billion has already been utilized across various sectors.
In the infrastructure and transport sectors, Rs46 billion of the Rs626 billion budget has been spent, with Rs25.93 billion allocated to transport and communication projects.
The energy sector recorded expenditures of Rs2.54 billion from its Rs122.65 billion allocation, while physical planning and housing projects used Rs4.69 billion out of Rs72.73 billion. Water resource projects spent Rs12.95 billion from Rs97.9 billion in funding.
Social sectors, including health, education, and nutrition, received Rs169 billion, though expenditure has been mixed. Education, including the Higher Education Commission (HEC), used Rs8.97 billion from Rs60.75 billion, whereas health and nutrition saw limited spending of just Rs140 million from Rs16.84 billion.
Governance projects utilized Rs650 million from Rs11.17 billion, and science and technology projects recorded Rs1.69 billion spent out of Rs37.59 billion. Foreign-funded projects have seen Rs6.3 billion used from an allocation of Rs25 billion.
These development initiatives are expected to significantly boost employment while addressing critical infrastructure, social, and economic needs across Pakistan over the coming years.
