The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad has announced that the federal capital will begin issuing e-tags for all vehicles using the city’s roads, starting November 18. The requirement will apply to vehicles registered both within Islamabad and in other provinces. Authorities have confirmed that citizens will be informed in advance about the designated points where e-tags will be issued.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance security and monitor traffic more effectively across the capital. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry previously stated that electronic tagging will be made compulsory for every vehicle entering or operating within Islamabad.
Under the new system, no vehicle will be permitted on the city’s roads without a valid e-tag, allowing authorities to track movement and ensure compliance with regulations.
The announcement comes in the wake of a suicide blast outside the district and sessions court in G-11, which resulted in 12 fatalities and 36 injuries. Officials have emphasized that the e-tagging program is a key component of the city’s strengthened security measures aimed at preventing such incidents and improving overall public safety.
The e-tag system is expected to streamline traffic management and provide law enforcement with real-time data on vehicle movements. Islamabad’s administration is working to ensure that the rollout process is smooth and accessible for all residents and commuters. Citizens will be advised on the necessary documentation and procedures required to obtain e-tags at the designated issuance points.
Authorities have also highlighted that the e-tag initiative is in line with global best practices, combining technology and security measures to protect citizens while enhancing urban mobility.
The Islamabad administration urges all vehicle owners to comply with the new requirement to avoid penalties and contribute to a safer, more secure environment in the federal capital.
The issuance of e-tags marks a significant step toward modernizing Islamabad’s traffic and security infrastructure while prioritizing the safety of its residents and visitors.
