Pixar Animation Studios has unveiled the official teaser trailer for Toy Story 5, confirming the return of iconic characters Woody and Buzz Lightyear in an all-new adventure scheduled for June 19, 2026. The highly anticipated fifth installment introduces fresh threats to the beloved toy gang.
New Villain Enters the Playroom
The teaser introduces Lilypad, an innovative antagonist described as a sophisticated, frog-shaped smart tablet. This technologically advanced character presents unprecedented challenges for Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and their companions, creating obstacles that complicate their mission to protect playtime.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Returns
Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reprise their legendary roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear respectively, maintaining continuity with the franchise’s emotional core. Joan Cusack returns as Jessie, Blake Clark voices Slinky Dog, and Tony Hale continues as Forky. Comedian Conan O’Brien joins the ensemble as Smarty Pants, marking his debut in the beloved series.
Acclaimed Director Takes the Helm
Andrew Stanton, celebrated for directing Finding Nemo, Wall-E, and Finding Dory, leads the project. Stanton brings extensive franchise experience, having co-written all four previous installments and serving as sole screenwriter for this fifth chapter.
Legacy of Box Office Success
Since debuting as cinema’s first fully computer-animated feature in 1995, the Toy Story franchise has achieved remarkable commercial success. Both Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 surpassed one billion dollars globally while earning Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature.
Pixar’s Expanding Slate
Toy Story 5 represents Pixar’s 31st theatrical release. Following the massive success of Inside Out 2, which generated over 1.5 billion dollars as 2024’s highest-grossing film, anticipation runs high for this nostalgic return. Pixar will also release the original film Hoppers in March 2026, three months before Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters.
