ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important clarification, explaining the reasons surrouding the purchase of a new firewall. The Authority confirmed that its tender to procure new firewall is part of its IT security operations.
However, PTA pointed out that the initiative aims to safeguard the authorityโs internal systems from potential cyberattacks.
Firewall Aims to Protect PTAโs Internal Systems
According to PTA, the existing firewall is nearing its expiry. Therefore, the authority has initiated a tender under PPRA rules to ensure continued protection. The firewall serves as a security barrier, protecting PTAโs internal software and systems from unauthorized access and digital threats.
Procurement Follows PPRA Rules
PTA reiterated that the procurement process strictly follows the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) guidelines. It added that this measure is purely an internal network security enhancement and does not impact public internet access or national-level filtering systems.
Firewalls: A Standard Cybersecurity Tool
The regulator highlighted that firewalls are standard cybersecurity tools used globally by banks, multinational corporations, and government institutions. These tools are essential for protecting networks and applications from malicious activities and ensuring data integrity.
Internal Network Security Remains PTAโs Priority
PTA assured that the new firewall procurement is limited to strengthening its internal network and protecting critical applications installed within its systems. The authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strong cybersecurity measures and adhering to transparent procurement standards.
With the new firewall, PTA officials believe that the IT system and online networks in Pakistan will be safe from cyber attacks and hackers.
