The United States has decided to develop a military base in Israel near Gaza border. This will cost around $500 million to the United States. The aim of the military base is to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Palestinian enclave.
According to Yedioth Ahronoth, Washington aims to establish a large facility that will mark a major escalation in US activity within Israel. The base will host an international task force formed under the Gaza ceasefire agreement to supervise the truceโs enforcement.
Israeli officials told the daily that several thousand American troops will be stationed at the new base. The project will represent the first large-scale US military installation on Israeli territory, reflecting Washingtonโs deepening involvement in post-war stabilisation efforts in Gaza.
Broader US Role in Regional Security
During Israelโs two-year military campaign in Gaza, the US deployed a THAAD missile defence system, which helped intercept Iranian missiles and drones during a 12-day conflict with Israel. An Israeli official said the new base demonstrates Washingtonโs determination to play a direct role in Gazaโs recovery and in managing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
No American Boots on Gaza Soil
US officials, including Vice President JD Vance, have repeatedly insisted that no American soldiers will enter Gaza. Currently, about 200 US personnel are stationed at the US-backed Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) in Kiryat Gat, southern Israel, to help monitor the ceasefire.
Israeli officials said the US-led centre will eventually oversee humanitarian aid distribution in Gaza, replacing Israelโs COGAT unit, which currently handles logistical coordination between Gaza and Israel.
However, media reports did not mention the actual location of the proposed US military base in Israel near Gaza border. United States is one of the few countries which have brokered a ceasefire in Gaza.
