Law enforcement authorities have apprehended five suspects following a brazen gun attack on Pakistan’s national cricket star Naseem Shah’s family residence in Lower Dir’s Mayar area during the early hours of Monday morning.
According to police reports, unidentified assailants opened fire around 1:45 AM, specifically targeting the main entrance gate, windows, and a vehicle parked outside the property. The attackers fled immediately after the shooting, though prompt police response led to the subsequent arrest of five individuals connected to the incident.
A police spokesperson confirmed that Mayar Police Station has registered a formal case and launched a comprehensive investigation. Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage from neighboring properties while questioning detained suspects to establish their motives and identify any remaining accomplices involved in the coordinated attack.
Fortunately, no family members sustained injuries during the frightening ordeal. Local residents emphasized that Shah’s family maintains an impeccable reputation within the community, with no known disputes or enmities that might explain the assault.
The 22-year-old fast bowler, born in Mayar, has established himself as Pakistan cricket’s rising superstar since his remarkable Test debut against Australia in November 2019 at just sixteen years old. He achieved historic milestones early in his career, becoming the second-youngest Pakistani bowler to claim a five-wicket Test haul and the youngest pace bowler globally to accomplish this feat.
This alarming incident highlights escalating security challenges facing high-profile sports personalities throughout Pakistan. Authorities have pledged enhanced protective measures around Shah’s residence while continuing their investigation into whether the attack stems from personal, criminal, or politically motivated circumstances.
Despite this unsettling experience, Naseem Shah remains actively engaged with Pakistan’s national and domestic cricket commitments, continuing to represent his country internationally.
