Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday welcomed Google’s decision to establish offices and invest in Pakistan, describing the development as a reflection of growing international confidence in the country’s economic and digital policies.
In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, he termed the establishment of Google’s product assembly line in Haripur a highly positive step that would boost the government’s “Digital Pakistan” vision.
The prime minister said that global technology companies such as Google were showing trust in the government’s investor-friendly environment, which focuses on promoting ease of doing business, encouraging foreign investment, and creating job opportunities in the information technology sector.
He added that local production of IT products would make them more affordable for Pakistani consumers while contributing to foreign exchange earnings through the growth of an export-oriented digital industry.
Highlighting his administration’s commitment to developing Pakistan into a digital nation, PM Shehbaz said the government had taken concrete measures to empower youth, especially through technology and skill development programs.
“The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Google for IT training of Pakistani youth is an important step in this direction,” he said, noting that the collaboration would enhance digital literacy and employment prospects for the country’s young population.
The prime minister also pointed out that the government was distributing laptops to 100,000 talented students nationwide, ensuring that they have access to modern technological resources to excel in the IT field.
He added that nationwide training programs were helping young men and women acquire global-level skills, enhancing their competitiveness in international digital markets and enabling self-reliance through decent employment.
PM Shehbaz reaffirmed that the government was working on a fast-track basis to transform Pakistan into a regional hub of information technology and praised the efforts of the federal minister for IT and his team for their role in driving the sector’s progress.
