ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed for Azerbaijan on a two-day official visit from November 7 to 8 to attend the fifth anniversary celebrations of the country’s Victory Day. The visit comes at the invitation of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, according to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) on Friday.
Focus on Expanding Cooperation
During his stay in Baku, PM Shehbaz will meet President Aliyev to review the full spectrum of bilateral relations and explore new avenues of cooperation in trade, investment, energy, defence, education, and regional connectivity.
“Pakistan and Azerbaijan enjoy long-standing fraternal relations, rooted in shared faith, history, culture, and mutual trust,” the FO statement said. The two nations also maintain close coordination in global and regional forums, including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), and the United Nations (UN).
Reaffirming Strategic Partnership
The FO emphasised that PM Shehbaz’s visit reaffirms Pakistan’s unwavering support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while further strengthening their strategic partnership.
Third Visit to Azerbaijan in 2025
This trip marks Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s third visit to Azerbaijan this year. His previous visits included an official trip in February and participation at the 17th ECO Summit held in Khankendi from July 3 to 4.
During the ECO Summit, PM Shehbaz also met President Aliyev and highlighted that frequent leadership interactions had significantly reinforced the relationship between the two brotherly nations.
