Bollywood Mourns the Loss of Zarine Khan
Veteran actor and filmmaker Sanjay Khan’s wife, Zarine Khan, passed away peacefully at her Mumbai residence on Friday, surrounded by her family. She was 81 and had been suffering from age-related ailments for some time, according to family sources.
A Life of Grace, Love, and Creativity
Zarine Khan, known for her elegance and grace, was a prominent figure in Mumbai’s social circles and the backbone of the Khan family. She married Sanjay Khan in 1966, and together, they became one of Bollywood’s most admired couples. Their love story began with a chance meeting at a bus stop — a fateful encounter that led to a lifelong companionship.
Before her marriage, Zarine briefly appeared in Hindi films, including Tere Ghar Ke Saamne (1963), where she played Dev Anand’s secretary Jenny Fernandes, and Ek Phool Do Mali. Later, she reinvented herself as a successful interior designer and food writer. Her cookbook Family Secret celebrated traditional family recipes passed down through generations.
Inspiration for the Next Generation
Zarine’s creative legacy continues through her daughter, Sussanne Khan, a renowned interior designer who credits her mother for shaping her artistic vision. On Zarine’s 81st birthday, Sussanne shared a touching tribute on Instagram, expressing deep gratitude for her mother’s influence.
Her son, actor Zayed Khan, also frequently spoke about his mother’s importance in his life, once remarking, “Nothing can truly be achieved without your mother’s blessings.”
Family and Legacy
Zarine Khan is survived by her husband Sanjay Khan and their four children — Sussanne Khan, Zayed Khan, Farah Khan Ali, and Simone Arora. The family has requested privacy as they mourn her loss.
