ISLAMABAD: FIFA Vice President Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has expressed great satisfaction at returning to Pakistan after several years, calling his visit a positive step toward revitalizing football in the country.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Sheikh Salman said, โI am very happy to come to Pakistan after many years,โ recalling that his last visit took place in 2017. He praised the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) leadership and commended the governmentโs commitment to supporting sports, particularly football.
Focus on Pakistanโs Football Future
The FIFA official emphasized that his focus was on the present and future of Pakistani football rather than past challenges. โA clear roadmap is needed to promote football in Pakistan,โ he said, adding that the country possesses โtremendous potentialโ in the sport.
Sheikh Salman reaffirmed FIFAโs commitment to helping Pakistan strengthen its football structure at all levels. โYou will see changes in the near future,โ he assured, while acknowledging that the countryโs football infrastructure still needs improvement.
Boosting Infrastructure and Cooperation
During meetings with PFF officials, Sheikh Salman discussed projects aimed at enhancing football infrastructure and developing local talent. He thanked the Government of Pakistan for its hospitality, saying, โI am grateful to the government of Pakistan for the generous hosting.โ
The visit marks a renewed era of cooperation between FIFA and Pakistan, signaling stronger international support for building a sustainable football ecosystem.
Government Reaffirms Support
Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan welcomed Sheikh Salmanโs visit, calling it a โmilestone for football development.โ He announced that Pakistan will work with FIFA to identify and train young football talent nationwide.
โThe Prime Ministerโs Talent Hunt Program covers 30 sports, including football,โ he said, adding that Pakistanโs youth have the skill and passion needed to shine internationally.
