Baahubali’s epic story has not ended with the hit film’s two-part saga, as the makers of the movie dropped the teaser for Baahubali: The Eternal War today.
The upcoming project marks a return to the beloved world created by SS Rajamouli, who directed the original Baahubali films that became global blockbusters. This new installment, however, takes the story in an entirely new direction — through the medium of animation.
Directed by Ishan Shukla, known for his work on Star Wars: Visions and The Bandits of Golak, the film promises to expand the Baahubali universe with a fresh creative approach. The teaser’s description reads, “Amarendra Baahubali’s death wasn’t his end; it was the beginning of something Eternal.”
While promoting Baahubali: The Epic, SS Rajamouli addressed speculation about a possible third live-action film, clarifying that this project is not Baahubali 3. “We are releasing the Baahubali: The Eternal War teaser. The rumour is that we are announcing Baahubali 3, but that’s not true,” he said.
Rajamouli explained that the new film continues the story’s legacy through animation, saying, “It’s a continuation of the world of Baahubali. We released a 2D animated show on Amazon, and this is going to be a 3D animation.”
The filmmaker credited producer Shobu Yarlagadda for envisioning the project and pushing the story forward. “Producer Shobu has been constantly exploring ways to take the universe forward beyond the ultimate Baahubali 3. He met a young and talented animation director, Ishan Shukla, who came up with an idea to extend the story—the same characters, but on a different tangent,” Rajamouli said.
The animated epic, which has reportedly been in development for over two and a half years with a budget of Rs 120 crore, is set to open in theaters in 2027.
