High-Tech Drones to Boost Real-Time Policing and Public Safety
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has announced a major technological step to combat rising street crimes in Lahore by introducing drone surveillance for real-time crime monitoring and rapid response.
According to officials, the PSCA has allocated funds to purchase 10 advanced drones, which will be directly connected to the 15 emergency helpline for instant deployment during crime incidents. The move is part of a broader strategy to make Lahore a safer and smarter city through modern surveillance tools.
The drones will be stationed on high-rise buildings within the jurisdiction of ten major police stations, with operational workstations also set up on rooftops. Once a complaint is received via the 15 helpline, the drones will automatically launch and head to the reported location to provide real-time visuals to law enforcement officers.
Officials revealed that the drones will have a patrolling range of up to 15 kilometers and will cost between Rs2.2 million and Rs2.5 million each. After the initial phase in Lahore, the PSCA plans to expand the drone program to other districts of Punjab in a phased rollout.
The authority has also placed an order for docking drones to ensure uninterrupted operations and continuous aerial coverage. Following the arrival of the first batch, an additional 10 drones will be procured to enhance surveillance capabilities across the city.
PSCA officials believe that integrating drone technology with the existing Safe City infrastructure will make it significantly harder for criminals to escape after committing offenses. The system will allow real-time tracking, faster response, and improved coordination with police teams on the ground.
The initiative highlights Punjab’s growing focus on smart policing and technology-driven security, ensuring faster action, better monitoring, and enhanced safety for the citizens of Lahore.
