Justin Bieber has opened up about the emotional toll of negative comments he has received on Twitch, the live-streaming platform he joined in October.
Despite quickly amassing over 200,000 followers and committing to stream “almost daily,” the 31-year-old singer admits that the constant stream of hateful messages is beginning to wear him down.
During a broadcast on October 28, Bieber described streaming on Twitch as “incredibly exposing,” noting that it requires putting oneself out in a very public way. He explained that many of the negative remarks he encounters come from individuals projecting their own insecurities. “Individuals who hold negative feelings about themselves often express and create hurtful remarks,” he said. “It’s already challenging to expose yourself, and then you have to read that.”
Bieber recounted a particular night when the comments hit him hard. Viewers suggested that he had lost his energy and charm, saying things like, “Justin’s not as lively. He will never regain his lively nature. He has lost his charm.” The singer admitted that such remarks left him questioning himself. “I was thinking, what? I just participated in a game of basketball. I feel exhausted. But it begins to occupy my thoughts. Is my charm gone? My enthusiasm for life? It simply stinks,” he said.
Despite the negativity, Bieber continues to stream, emphasizing that he wants to engage with his fans while remaining authentic to himself.
The experience, however, has made him more aware of how public platforms can amplify both support and criticism. Bieber’s candid reflections highlight the pressures celebrities face online, balancing the desire to connect with fans against the emotional challenges posed by scrutiny and judgment.
He concluded by acknowledging the difficulty of navigating public opinion but reaffirmed his commitment to remain himself on Twitch, while also encouraging others to be mindful of the impact of their words on social media.
