Islamabad: Consumers in Pakistan may get much-needed relief at the fuel pumps this week as petroleum prices are expected to decrease from October 16, 2025.
Expected Price Reductions
According to industry estimates, petrol prices could fall by Rs6.10 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) may see a Rs1 per litre reduction.
Sources revealed that the oil industry has shared its price working with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) for review. The authority is likely to forward its summary to the Ministry of Finance tomorrow.
As per the proposed calculations, kerosene oil may become cheaper by Rs2.75, and light diesel oil could drop by Rs1.64 per litre.
Process and Implementation
Once OGRA completes its review, it will submit recommendations to the Ministry of Finance, which will make the final decision and issue an official notification.
The revised fuel prices are expected to take effect from October 16 following the official announcement by the government.
However, sources cautioned that if the government decides to raise the petroleum levy or sales tax, the anticipated relief might shrink or disappear entirely.
Current Fuel Prices in Pakistan
As of October 1, 2025, the official fuel rates are:
-
Petrol (Super): Rs268.68 per litre
-
High-Speed Diesel: Rs276.81 per litre
Consumers can check updated fuel prices and locate nearby fuel stations using the Shell Station Locator or other online platforms.
Possible Relief for Motorists
If approved, the upcoming reduction would mark a welcome respite for motorists struggling with rising living costs and inflationary pressure. Analysts say falling global oil prices and a stable exchange rate have created room for this adjustment.
