ISLAMABAD: Internet users across Pakistan will experience slower speeds and connectivity disruptions as Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) begins maintenance work on one of the countryโs main submarine cables today.
According to an official statement, the scheduled repair activity will start at 11:00 a.m. Pakistan Standard Time (PST) on Tuesday, October 14, to fix a faulty repeater in the undersea cable system.
PTCL stated that the maintenance work could last up to 18 hours, during which customers may encounter intermittent connectivity and reduced browsing performance. However, domestic internet traffic is expected to remain largely unaffected.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), PTCL confirmed:
โA maintenance activity is planned on one of our submarine cables to repair a faulty repeater. The activity will start on October 14, 2025, around 11 a.m. PST and may last up to 18 hours. Customers will face service degradation. We regret the inconvenience.โ
The company added that its technical teams will work continuously to complete the repairs and restore full internet capacity as quickly as possible.
Submarine cable systems are critical for Pakistanโs international internet connectivity, carrying a majority of global data traffic. Therefore, even short maintenance windows can temporarily impact online services, streaming quality, and cloud-based operations.
PTCL assured users that traffic rerouting measures have been implemented to minimize disruption during the repair work.
